Medical Insurance

Three medical plans with dental and prescription options are available to full-time employees. The plans are IU Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) with $900 deductible 2.)  PPO Plus 3).  Blue Preferred Primary. The employee and the University share the premium cost. The plans have four tiers of coverage that include employee, employee and children, employee and spouse, and family. Coverage begins the first day of work.

IU CIGNA Dental Plan

The employee may use any dentist, however, higher benefits are paid when a CIGNA network dentist is used. There is an annual benefit limit of $1,000 per member.

Life Insurance

The University provides term life insurance for full-time employees that is an amount equal to two times the base salary, with a maximum of $50,000. Spouses of employees are insured for $3,000 and dependent children for $1,000.

Supplemental Life

Additional life insurance for the employee may be purchased through the Supplemental Life Plan in amounts from one to four times the annual salary.

Personal Accident Insurance

Additional insurance for accidental death or dismemberment may be purchased at a low premium. Spouses and children may also be covered.

IU - Retirement

IU maintains a defined contribution plan for full-time professional staff through Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association/College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA/CREF) or Fidelity. IU makes periodic contributions of 10% of the employee's salary for a retirement income. Multiple investment options are offered.

Tax Deferred Annuity

Employees may set aside money through payroll deductions for retirement on a before-tax basis. This is a voluntary retirement savings program established by IRS Regulations 403b and 457b.

Fee Courtesy

Eligible individuals may receive an IU subsidy toward the tuition costs associated with attending Indiana University classes.

Eligibility

The following categories of individuals associated with Indiana University are eligible for the Fee Courtesy benefit:

  • Appointed full-time (100%) Faculty and Staff employed by the end of the first week of the semester or session.

  • Appointed full-time (100%) Faculty and Staff on an approved leave of absence.

  • Individuals with IU Retiree status.

  • Disabled former employees receiving long-term disability benefits from a University-sponsored plan, Social Security Administration, or PERF.

  • The spouse, registered domestic partner, and dependent children of an individual in any of these categories.

Tax Saver Benefit Plan

This is a voluntary plan that exempts certain expenses such as insurance premiums, medical care expenses and dependent care expenses from federal, state, local and Social Security (FICA) taxes. Each part is payroll deducted on a before tax basis, thus lowering the net taxable income.

Voluntary Long-Term Disability

Employees have the option of purchasing a Long-Term Disability Plan underwritten by "TIAA/CREF." Rates are based on age, salary and the option selected. After meeting the waiting period, the disability income benefit is payable at 60% of budgeted salary less any social security or pension payments.

Direct Bank Deposit

With direct bank deposit, your money will be in your account on payday and immediately available. Direct bank deposit is available for use with either an IU Credit Union account or your own banking institution.
