Welcome! Bienvenidos! Irashaimasu! Willkommen!

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.
Mark Twain (1835-1910)
The Innocents Abroad, 1869

Welcome to IU Southeast International Programs! International Programs engages in a range of activities for the campus and the surrounding community to encourage a greater understanding of international issues and global diversity. We invite you to explore our international and campus community through participation in our events.

International Programs provides information and assistance for students interested in study abroad. In connection with the Indiana University Office of Overseas Study, students at IU Southeast may choose from over 100 programs that offer them the opportunity to study for a few weeks, a summer, a semester, or an academic year in another country. IU Southeast is also pleased to offer several campus-based programs led by IU Southeast faculty: a program in tropical biology that visits various locations, including Tahiti, Belize, and Dominica; and a program in education and nursing in Ecuador.

For those interested in experiencing international diversity closer to home, International Programs sponsors a range of on-campus events in which people are welcome to participate. We offer an International Speaker Series, which in recent years has offered lectures on U.S.-Cypriot Relations by Ambassador Evriviades of the Republic of Cyprus, The Roots of International Terrorism by former captive Terry Waite, Problems of Higher Education in South Korea by visiting scholar Dr. Wu Woan Kim, Goddesses in Hinduism by Dr. Johnny Alse, and other topics. An annual highlight is the International Festival, which is usually held on the first Tuesday in March, and offers attendees an opportunity to sample authentic dishes from different world regions, learn about international organizations on campus and in the surrounding community, and enjoy demonstrations of music and dance representing a range of cultures. We also encourage you to attend another major event, Wares of the World: An International Market, held late in October/early November, that offers an opportunity to see and purchase hand-crafted items from as many as forty countries that are produced according to fair trade practices. Some of the academic units on campus, such as the Department of Modern Languages, regularly show international films on campus and International Programs is pleased to provide information about these and other international events on campus.

International Programs also administers several grant programs to assist students with meeting the costs of study abroad and to assist faculty in conducting international research and teaching.

We hope you will join us in exploring international diversity - we can offer you the world!
