NEW ALBANY, IN, (February 24, 2014)
Students at IU Southeast and IU East can now print documents from their mobile devices.
In this enhancement to the IU Print service, students can use their IU email address to send documents to the campus black & white or color print queues from anywhere. They may use any device that sends email, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, or desktop computers. Students will simply attach the document they want to print to an email message, then release that document at any Student Technology Center (STC) print release station. Full instructions for mobile printing for students can be found on the IT website’s Printing, Copying & Faxing page.
Mobile convenience is a major plus for students on the go. Surveys show that most are carrying three personal computing devices to campus. Accommodating mobility is another example of how UITS is empowering people.
IU Southeast and IU East are the first campuses to launch mobile printing. Eventually, it will be available to all of IU.
IU Print is an example of all IU campus IT departments working together. Engineers at each of the regional campuses offered suggestions and came to agreements on how to manage printing services so that resources from all campuses are load balanced and maintained. The engineers share administrative rights and duties, and are cross-trained to back up each other’s responsibilities.
