IU Southeast Music Department

Indiana University Southeast
2012 SUMMER SAXOPHONE WORKSHOP
June 17-24, 2012

The IU Southeast Summer Saxophone Workshop is administered by the IU Southeast Arts Institute in
cooperation with the IU Southeast Music Department.

The Arts Institute is a non-credit community outreach program offering instruction in music, art, and theatre
to the southern Indiana and Louisville Metro communities.

Qualifications

Saxophonists age 15 through adult.

Curriculum

The IU Southeast Summer Saxophone Workshop will focus on classical saxophone study and performance. All participants (including staff) will play in a saxophone orchestra as well as various chamber groups. Soloists and small ensembles will receive coaching by workshop faculty. Students will also be able to take advantage of a rare opportunity: to play their solo repertoire with a professional pianist! There will be master classes in chamber music and solo performance, as well as scheduled discussions of various topics: i.e. breathing, practice, articulation, technique, literature, overtones (high tones), mouthpieces, reed preparation and care of your saxophone. This workshop offers a unique opportunity for collaborative pianists and composers, with spaces for 2 each, respectively.

Evenings will be filled with a variety of professional performances and the week culminates in concerts by workshop participants. All concerts are free and open to the public. Other evening events of interest are under consideration. We are looking forward to our week of camaraderie and networking with saxophonists of all ages who love that “Sound of Sax” so much that they can never get enough!

PARKING

Please note this important change to the IU Southeast policy regarding on-campus parking:
The Indiana University Southeast Administrative Council has revised the Indiana University Southeast Parking & Traffic Regulation policy. The revised policy states that the IU Southeast University Police Department will no longer issue Courtesy Parking Permits. Arts Institute students, and parents of Arts Institute students, must now pay for parking on the IU Southeast Campus. The options available to Arts Institute students and parents of Arts Institute students are as follows:

  • A daily permit may be purchased at one of the permit dispensers located in the campus parking lots at a cost of $1.00. (See the map above for dispenser locations.) These daily permits must be displayed on the dashboard of the windshield of the vehicle, and are only valid in the parking areas designated with red “Student Parking Permits” signs. Parking is not permitted on the top tier of the Hickory Lot directly behind the Ogle Center before 5:00 p.m. The top tier is reserved for IU Southeast Faculty & Staff.
  • An Arts Institute student or parent may park in a visitor parking area (meters). Visitor parking areas (meters) are located in the Evergreen East and West, Dogwood, and Hickory parking lots. These spaces are not to be utilized by faculty, staff, or students who have a semester or annual permit displayed. Please be aware that vehicles parked at an expired meter are subject to ticketing by the University Police.
  • Campus Parking Permit sampleAn Arts Institute student or parent may purchase a semester permit directly from the University Police at a cost of $21.00 for the semester during the first week of lessons. The University Police Department is located in the University Center building, room 027, (812) 941-2400. These permits give Arts Institute students access to parking in the Hickory lot red zones, or blue zones (blue zone parking permitted only after 5:00 p.m.). Only students or parents of students of the Arts Institute are eligible to purchase an Arts Institute semester parking permit from the University Police. IU Southeast students, faculty, and staff are not eligible for this permit. If a handicap designation is required with the Arts Institute permit, please notify the University Police of this at the time of the purchase of the permit. The University Police will require either the license plate number of the vehicle or a photocopy of the display tag at the time of purchase. Handicap designations will not be issued without this information.

Please contact University Police at (812) 941-2400 for all questions or issues related to parking.
