Curriculum

The clinic will focus primarily on performance in an American String Literature Class (string orchestra), Instrument Class (a class dedicated to the student's specific instrument), and Chamber Music. In addition, a class in Music in America will be offered.

Students will have the option of selecting the complete clinic experience, or a shortened experience consisting only of the Instrument Class and Chamber Music.

COMPLETE CLINIC
(recommended for older and/or more advanced players)
Noon to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Chamber Music and String Orchestra concert on Saturday afternoon.
$275 (+ registration fee)

American String Literature (string orchestra) The class will explore more than 300 years of string music written by American Composers in many styles. American composers of string music include well-known names such as Copeland, Bernstein, and Barber. By the end of the week, a representative sample of American String Literature will be chosen to be performed by the orchestra. This class will culminate in a final concert performance on Saturday.

Chamber Music Experience the joys and challenges of learning to play in quartets or similar-sized ensembles Students will be assigned to a small group of students of comparable musical ability and work with a professional coach with extensive professional chamber music experience. This class will culminate in a final concert performance on Saturday.

Instrument Class Spend an hour learning more about your specific instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass) in a class that focuses on aspects of music and technique unique to your instrument. These classes are led by master teachers and performers of that instrument.

Music in America Class Students will be introduced to the many aspects of American music. The history of string music in America will be presented in a brief survey from the earliest known music from the new world, the creation of string music for the stage and screen, and the music being written for string instruments today with the ever expanding tools of music technology. The fundamentals of music theory will be presented with examples from the music and composers studied in the American String Literature Class.

Private Lesson (optional) Half hour lesson in a one-on-one session with a master teacher of your instrument. Students may request to work on specific techniques, solo repertoire, string literature, chamber music or other areas of performance.

BREVE CLINIC
