2006 Radio Interview with Clinic Director Helen Bohannon on WUOL

Purpose The Summer String Clinic is co-sponsored by the Music Department and Arts Institute of Indiana University Southeast. Its purpose is to foster the development of talented string players in the Southern Indiana / Louisville, Kentucky region through interaction with professional musicians and educators in a college environment.

Dates and Times The clinic will be held from Monday, June 16 through Saturday, June 21, 2008. Seating and chamber ensemble assignment auditions will be held on the first day of the clinic. The clinic starts at 9:00am M-F and at 12:30pm on Saturday. A chamber ensemble recital is scheduled for Friday, June 20 at 5:30PM, and the final large ensemble concert will be held on Saturday, June 21, at 3:00 PM. Location All rehearsals, classes and concerts will be held in the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center on the IU Southeast campus in New Albany, Indiana, just minutes from downtown Louisvlle, KY. For directions to IU Southeast, click here.

Qualifications Students leaving grades 7 through 12 (rising 8th-college freshman) who have experience with standard string orchestra literature are eligible to apply.

Admission Admission will be determined on the strength of the student’s application and the recommendation of the student’s private instructor and/or orchestra director. The application form must be completed and include at least one letter of recommendation (or signature on the accompanying recommendation form) from a current instructor. Application deadline is June 2 , 2008. Early application deadline (eligible for the early registration tuition discount) is May 16, 2008. After you have received your letter of acceptance, music and further information will be sent to you.

Tuition Full tuition for the clinic is $185. Applications postmarked by May 16, 2008 will be eligible for a reduced tuition cost of $160. Applications must be accompanied by one half of the tuition cost. The balance of the tuition will be due upon notification of acceptance. Payments may be made in the form of check, cash, money order, or online by means of a credit card.

Housing IU Southeast does not currently provide student housing. Transportation to and from the campus will be the responsibility of the student.

Meals Lunch will be provided daily for an additional $35 fee (optional). Students may also choose to provide their own lunch. Several fast-food restaurants are located within a short driving distance.

Cancellation The Arts Institute and IU Southeast Music Department reserve the right to cancel the clinic in the event of insufficient enrollment.
