The BA degree track in Biochemistry is recommended for wanting to go on to medical, dental and other health related pre-professional occupations, and those interested in working in the chemical industry with emphasis biotechnology and pharmaceutics, that would require a strong background in biochemistry.
In addition to the "General Requirements for Undergraduate Degrees at IU Southeast" and "General Requirements for Bachelor of Arts Degrees" (see Academic Bulletin), degree candidates must complete one additional communication course (ENG-W234), at least 29 credit hours in Chemistry, 6 credits of Chemistry Electives chosen from the list below, 5 credit hours in Biology (BIOL-L101), 3 credit hours in Mathematics (MATH-M119), and 5 credit hours in Physics (PHYS-P201 or 221) with a grade of C or higher in each core course. Students with credits from other institutions pursuing a major in chemistry must complete at least three advanced chemistry courses (300-level or higher) and 1 credit hour of Chemistry Seminar (CHEM-C301 or C302) at IU Southeast. It is recommended that transfer students consult a Chemistry Advisor to determine course transfer equivalencies. For more information contact an advisor at the School of Natural Sciences (812) 941-2284.
