Requirements for Minor in Geography

18 credit hours, including the following geography courses with a grade of C or higher in each course:

  • Complete Each of the Following:
    • GEOG-G 107 Physical Systems of the Environment (3 cr.)
    • GEOG-G 110 Introduction to Human Geography (3 cr.)
    • GEOG-G 201 World Regional Geography (3 cr.)
  • Select One of the Following:
    • GEOG-G 333 Introductory Cartography (3 cr.)
    • GEOG-G 338 Geographic Information Science (3 cr.)
  • 6 credit hours in Geography and/or Geology Electives, with at least 3 credit hours in lecture-based courses at the 300 - 400 level, with approval of advisor

Requirements for Minor in Geology

19 credit hours, including the following courses with a grade of C or higher in each course:

  • GEOL-G 100 Earth Science: Geologic Concepts (5 cr.)
  • GEOL-G 221 Introduction to Mineraology (4 cr.)
  • GEOL-G 222 Introductory Petrology (4 cr.)
  • At least 6 credit hours in geology at the 300 - 400 level, with at least 3 credit hours in lecture-based courses, with approval of advisor

Requirements for Minor in Geosciences1

18 credit hours, including the following courses with a grade of C or higher in each course:

  • Select One of the Following:
    • GEOG-G 107 Physical Systems of the Environment(3 cr.)
    • GEOL-G 100 Earth Science: Geologic Aspects (5 cr.)
  • Select one of the Following:
    • AST-A 100 The Solar System (3 cr.)
    • AST-A 105 Stellar Astronomy (3 cr.)
    • GEOG-G 201 World Regional Geography (3 cr.)
    • GEOL-G 221 Introductory Mineralogy (4 cr.)
  • 9 - 12 credit hours with at least 9 credit hours in lecture-based formal geography, geology, or astronomy courses, with at least 6 credit hours at the 300 - 400 level. Approval of program by geoscience advisor required.

1Students cannot earn a minor in geoscience if they apply for a geoscience major or a geography or geology minor.
