IU Southeast Partners with Speed Art Museum

If you missed the special open house for IU Southeast at the Speed Art Museum on February 17, you missed a great discussion about the Speed's resources for educators and art lovers.

The Speed will tailor exhibits specifically for educators (with advance notice, of course). For example, an instructor discussing the role of religion in society might ask the Speed to put together an exhibit on this theme, giving students a new dimension on the topic and opening the door to discussion.

Now through March 26, the Speed is showcasing a special exhibit, Time and Transformation in 17th Century Dutch Art. This exhibit examines the effects of time and circumstance on the physical world. Themes vary from war and natural disasters to navigation and rustic landscapes. A special contemporary exhibit also on display now through June 25 is Gaela Erwin: Facing the Subject. Erwin offers a series of paintings of herself in the guise of Christian saints and martyrs, reflecting her interest in the human condition.

IU Southeast faculty, staff, and students get free admission to the Speed during regular Museum hours and discounted admission to special events. The Speed is typically closed on Mondays but open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; Thursdays 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sundays 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.
