Q. Can I take the placement tests on the same day as my Orientation session?
A. No. Placement tests must be completed before you attend your Orientation session. If you live far away from IU Southeast or have a scheduling conflict, please call us at 812-941-2312 to discuss options for placement testing.
Q. Do I have to take the writing and math placement tests if I took AP courses in high school?
A. Yes. Most high schools administer AP tests in May, and AP Southeast does not receive AP grade reports until June or July. Go ahead and take the placement tests, and you will be notified in July of any AP special credit earned.
Q. How much time should I plan to spend taking the placement tests?
A. Students proceed through the tests at their own pace. The ACT Compass math test is untimed. Most students complete testing in less than 1 hour.
Q. When will I receive my placement test scores?
A. You will receive your placement test scores when you meet with an Academic Advisor during your Orientation session.
Q. Can I register for a class before I receive my placement test scores?
A. Generally not. In almost all cases, placement tests must be completed prior to registration for classes. Talk to an admission counselor or an academic advisor if you want to register for a course before you receive your placement test scores.
