Supplemental Instruction Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program that increases student performance and persistence. The program was first developed in 1973 at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. SI targets traditionally difficult academic courses--those that have a high rate of D, F, and W grades. SI provides regularly scheduled, out-of-class, peer-facilitated sessions that start the first week of classes, are open to all students in the course and are attended on a voluntary basis. Why Use SI? 1. Earn better grades Statistics show that frequent SI participants earn a half to a full letter grade higher than non-participants.
Note taking; test-taking skills (mock/practice tests); teacher expectations; time management (procrastination); and reading the text.
3. Develop a sense of community Network with classmates (share phone numbers and email addresses); establish roots at IU Southeast.
4. Free out-of-class study sessions SI makes studying easier, more productive and fun
