STAFF COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES 1/20/09 - 10:00 A.M. – UNIVERSITY CENTER 122 Attending: Mary Ann Braden, Lesley Deal, Charlotte Dubois, Cari Edwards, Angela Farnsley, Diane Fuchs, Ethel King, Angie Moon, Connie Schnieders, Loretta Seals, Lisa Stark, Leslie Turner, Alice Watson, Kim Wells, and Mary Ann Wild. Excused Absences: Linda Haskins, Regina McCarty Unexcused Absence: Stephen Miller Chairman Alice Watson welcomed all those attending the first reception for new employees hosted by Staff Council. Diane Fuchs narrated a Power Point presentation defining Staff Council and explaining how Staff Council serves employees. Staff Council brochures were also distributed to all new employees attending. Refreshments were served, and at the end of the social time, all new employees were thanked for attending and invited to stay for the business meeting if they wished. Proceeding with the business meeting, Mary Ann Wild presented the Treasurer’s report. See detail of the Treasurer’s report below. Budget Committee – Alice Watson Action was tabled until the next meeting. OLD BUSINESS BNCB Gift Certificates – Lesley Deal With the website once again being fully operational, four winners of Barnes & Noble College Bookstore gift certificates were chosen from those registering to win on the website. The winners were: Linda Endris, Mary Beth Nanz, Christie Shepherd, and Mary Ann Wild. From this point forward, one winner will be chosen each month. Honoraria – Kim Wells The $150.00 scholarship honorarium was awarded to Ruben Borrego and the $50.00 book honorarium was awarded to Kelly Bowling. Congratulations to each of them. Silent Auction – Leslie Turner Leslie reminded everyone that this may be a good time of year to contact those companies and individuals who were unable to contribute to the Silent Auction last fall due to funds being allocated earlier in the year for donations. Companies, especially, are creating their budgets at this time of the year and allocating those funds for donations now. NEW BUSINESS Staff Assistance – Alice Watson One person has applied for assistance due to family and personal medical/financial problems. After discussion, a motion was made and seconded (Mary Ann Braden/Diane Fuchs) to award $200.00 to the staff member in the form of an IU Credit Union gift card. The motion passed unanimously. Mary Ann Wild will contact the recipient to make arrangements to get the card. Thanks to everyone who shared refreshments today with your fellow SC members and new employees, and to the committee for planning today’s event.
