Discussed Staff Council elections.  Loretta Seals has volunteered to represent the Service Maintenance area for Staff Council activities.  Welcome Aboard!  Kim Draughn will continue also to represent the Service Maintenance area.  The decision was made to not conduct the election process due to the number of nominations.

Trudy Walter reported that the collection on the money tree for Karyn Webb was progressing very well.  Donations will be accepted for another three weeks.  Discussed Staff Council contributing funds to the money tree.  Donna Harvey made a motion for Staff Council to contribute the funds of $100.00 to Karyn Webb's money tree.  Motion passed by Kim Wells.  Motion passed.  Special thank you to Trudy Walter for coordinating the collection process.

Kim Wells reported that a Sunshine Basket is being assembled for Patti Loebig.  Please submit your items by Friday, September 22, 2006.  Donna Harvey made a motion for Staff Council to make a contribution for Patti Loebig when applicable.  Motion passed by Kim Wells.  Motion passed.  Hats off to Kim Wells for coordinating the basket.

Reminder – Staff Council fundraiser is scheduled for November 14, 2006.  Items for door prizes are being solicited.  Mary Ann Wild is keeping a master listing of all donated items.  Ethel King volunteered to chat with Vicki Hartman regarding purchase of food and bringing cookies for this event.  We are encouraging each Staff Council member to try and obtain three items for the silent auction.  Donations are welcome – (movie passes, dinner certificates, etc.).  We all need to pitch-in and obtain items for this event.  Event is scheduled to be held from 8:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m.  Steven Clark volunteered to distribute via e-mail a template of a letter that has been used for donation solicitation last year. 

Reminder – Support Staff Retreat – October 20, 2006.  NOTE:  Meeting location has been changed to Clark County REMC.  Further information will be forthcoming from Human Resources.

Discussed car pooling and gas prices.  Continued discussions regarding 4 day work week.  Steven Clark volunteered to meet with Ann Lee and discuss.  If applicable, an e-mail will be sent out with details.

There was a suggestion in the suggestion box to extend the Staff Council scholarship offer to include non-credit courses.  After discussions, the Staff Council members decided not to include non-credit courses.

Congratulations to our Board!

Discussed the phrasing of an addendum to the Staff Council By-Laws which eliminates the functional classification designation – CL, TE and SM.  It was suggested that this item be discussed with SM staff and any concerns be addressed in writing or in person at the next Staff Council meeting.

Chancellor Retreat updates:

  • Discussed STAMATS – encouraged to attend discussions
  • Increase of visiting students on campus – maintain professionalism

Executive Council updates:

  • Discussed new items on campus:  Honor's Program and Informatics Program
  • IUS Accreditation is coming up 2009 – 2010
  • Housing proposal
  • Financial Aid and Bursar are moving office locations on Monday
  • New signs on campus
  • IUS involvement in Harvest Homecoming
  • Utilize "The Planet" for more mass marketing on campus

Steven Clark received an invitation to the Trustee's Luncheon being held on 9/20/2006.  Steven volunteered to attend to represent IUS Staff Council and their concerns/issues.  Thanks!
