MINUTES OF MEETING HELD 10/30/01

Election of Officers: The following people were nominated and elected as follows:
- President: Kathleen Norvell
- Vice President: Cynthia Stevenson
- Secretary: Bev Biggs
- Treasurer: Janie Loney

Committee Appointments: The following people agreed to serve on the CBAG Committee and the Chancellor Executive Council:
- CBAG: Alicia Stanley and Bev Biggs
- CEC: Kathleen Norvell and Libbie McMahan (holdover from last year)

| Time Off Policy: Elected members are granted time off for up to two hours in any month to attend staff council meetings or functions. This is in accordance with the by-laws of the Staff Council as approved by the Chancellor.

Excused/Un-excused Absences: The by-laws state the following as far as absences are concerned:
"An absence shall be considered excused if
- the absence is due to illness or job-related obligations;
- the member has directly notified the appropriate Council officer (chair or vice-chair) in advance of the meeting; and
- if the member has attempted to locate a substitute.
All 3 conditions must be met for an absence to be excused. All other absences are not excused. If a member accrues more than three absences that are not excused, he or she will be automatically dropped from the Council and the person receiving the next highest votes from that classification will fill the vacancy."
It was agreed that we would enforce these rules during the coming year.

| Web Page: Since the Staff Council Web Page has not been updated, it was decided that it should be discontinued.

| Minutes: Minutes will be sent out shortly after the meeting to all elected members, who will then review and suggest changes/additions. When those changes/additions have been made, the minutes will be sent to the staff via the Campus Life announcement page for all members to view.

| New Members: There were not enough CL/TE's elected at the last election, so the next three people to receive votes will be asked to join the Council. They were Curtis Peterson, Rebecca Beardsley and Barb Gelwick.

| Note: Professional staff, although asked to join our Council, have not yet had elections. |

| Fund Raising: This will be discussed at length during the next meeting. It was decided not to have a pie throwing contest again this year. Ideas for fund raising were to have a gift certificate tree and a style show. It is requested that anyone with additional ideas should contact a Council member.

Committee Representatives: In June each year, the Council needs to forward a list of names to the Chancellor's Office for representation on various committees. Although this has not been done lately, there are staff on some committees and they need to submit minutes of their meetings to the vice chair for reporting to the Council. These people will be notified:
- Campus Facilities & Safety Committee - Kim Wells & Jon Norman
- Campus Life - Margie Wilcoxson
- Classification Appeals - Sabrina Haas
- Council on Equity & Diversity - Libbie McMahan and Rick Reynolds
- Institutional Animal Care & Use - Jon Norman
- Chancellor Executive Committee - Libbie McMahan and Kathleen Norvell
- CBAG - Bev Biggs and Alicia Stanley

| President's Comments: Kathleen reiterated the fact that she wants the Staff Council to be primarily for staff and the good of staff. She recommended that we continue to send flowers to those members convalescing.

| Next Meeting: The next meeting of the Council is tentatively set for Tuesday, November 13 at 10:30 in LB 154. Watch for agenda items to be announced one week prior to the next meeting. |
