Secretary Bev Biggs reported that the minutes of the last meeting were approved by all Staff Council members via email and then sent to all staff prior to the meeting.

Treasurer Janey Loney reported that there was only one expense of $10 during the last month. That leaves the balances at:
  Savings $853.91
Checking $509.39
Rainy Day $371.63

GIFT TREE: President Kathleen Norvell reported that she had secured several donations for the gift tree and will make it available in front of the Bookstore. Members were asked to sell chances for $1 each. The drawing will be held on December 14 outside the Bookstore. Donations have been received from Priddy's, Los Indios Restaurant, You A Carry Outa, The Main Menu, Subway, Jack's, Java Joy, Kelsey's Golden China Buffet, Mr. Spaghetti, Winn Dixie, Berba Finley, IUS Bookstore and Kroger. Depending on whether or not we get a room donation from Double Tree, we will have a second prize good for Double Tree and the Galt House Sunday Brunch.

STYLE SHOW: Cynthia Stevenson reported that the only available date for a room was Friday, March 22. The committee is, in addition to Cynthia, Lisa Ruddell, Janie Loney and Cari Winstead. Rebecca Beardsley offered to find sponsors to cover their $100 charge if Priddy's was chosen. A report with a budget will be given at the January meeting.

STANDING COMMITTEE MEMBERS: The Personnel Affairs Committee Chair, Juli Crecilius, named the following members: Vickie Jensen, Dave Kaiser, Robert Moore and Rick Boyer. The By-Laws Committee Chair, Bev Biggs, named the following members: Monica Wise, Pam Asberry, Jeff Gillenwater, Paula Sylvester. Members of the Elections and Nominating Committees will be reported at the January meeting.

DUPLICATE PARKING PERMITS: President Norvell reported the Police Department reiterated that personnel must pay for a second permit - no duplicates will be issued.

CLOSED OFFICES: It was requested that President Norvell ask the Administration to grant offices permission to close during the 2 or 3 events that occur during the year when the entire campus is invited to attend. This has been especially felt during the last week for the Recognition Banquet and for the up-coming Christmas Party. Several staff are asked to stay in the office and handle calls and walk-ins during the time of the program. Last year, there was no food left for those who came to the Christmas Party at a later time. Instead of creating goodwill, it has created hard feelings. A suggestion was made to post the closing on the office door a week or so in advance and President Norvell will ask if we could accommodate our customers this way instead of leaving some staff out altogether.

RAINY DAY FUND COMMITTEE: Diane Reid and Lillian Yeager were the two faculty members nominated to serve on this committee. Vickie Jensen is the staff member already on the committee.

MEETING SCHEDULE FOR SPRING: It was agreed the Council would meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 10:00 in the Alumni Room. Following are the dates:
  January 15
February 19
March 19
April 16
May 21
June 18

CHRISTMAS HELP: After a discussion of who to help this Christmas, the Council agreed to help a staff member with a $200 gift certificate from Meijers. Since the Council knew of only one person in need, it was agreed that if another name surfaced, we would split the amount between them.

STUDENT PLANNERS: It was requested that Staff Council pay for every staff person to have a Student Planner, but the Council voted "no" to this request.

FAMILY LEAVE: A professional staff member asked a Council member to find out if staff have paid time off, why they would have to sign the FMLA forms. This request will be looked into by the President.

Cynthia Stevenson thanked the Council for their sympathy card send to her recently on the death of her brother-in-law.

The members closed the meeting by preparing the gift bags to be presented to each CL/TE/SM staff member as a holiday greeting and to help fulfill our goal of more visibility of the Staff Council.

TENTATIVE AGENDA ITEMS FOR JANUARY: Initiative for Staff, Budget Cuts and what it means to staff.
