President Norvell thanked Debbie NeSmith for purchasing the gift bags and candy for the staff right before the holidays. She also complimented Barb Gelwick on how nice our web page looks.
| FAMILY LEAVE ACT FOLLOW-UP: President Norvell discussed this question with Human Resources and was told that signing the FMLA form protects both the University and the staff person.
| |
| ELECTION & NOMINATING COMMITTEES: Roger Morris and Lee Bennett are still trying to get people to serve on these committees and will report back when they have done so. |
| |
| STYLE SHOW REPORT: After discussion it was agreed that Kohl's and Priddy's both will participate in the style show. There will be no charge to us; Rebecca Beardsley has received $100 from a sponsor to help with the expenses. Food service will provide grilled chicken on a croissant, fruit salad, ice tea and coffee, brownie and table decorations for $8. Tickets will cost $12 per person. Rebecca Beardsley has offered to design the tickets with the theme "Spring Into Fashion". Becky Carlton, a speech instructor, will be asked to do the commentary. Door prizes will be given away. The committee will have more details for discussion at the February meeting.
| |
| INITIATIVE FOR STAFF: The Staff Council was asked to find out what the "Initiatve for Staff" was all about and President Norvell reported that it had to do with the Quality Service initiative. Mike Kerstiens will be asked to attend our February meeting to explain it. |
| |
| BUDGET CUTS AND WHAT THEY MEAN TO STAFF: President Norvell reported that the Chancellor's Executive Committee, of which she is a member, has discussed the budget cuts for this year and next year (both 5%) but these cuts did not affect salaries. A report from the CBAG Committee has also concluded that no decisions have been made about salaries; however, Bev Biggs, a member, reported that current faculty and staff members of CBAG have indicated that increases in salaries will continue to be a priority recommendation of the committee. The Council decided to draft a statement for approval at the next meeting, to send to the IUS administration reiterating our desire to make certain that staff members are rewarded with a pay increase of no less than 3%.
| |
| RELAY FOR LIFE: The Council voted to participate again this year by sponsoring a team for $100, as a donation to the American Cancer Society. Teresa Andrews, Trudy Walter and Roger Morris will coordinate the event. Dates are May 17 and 18 and President Norvell asked everyone to participate.
| |
| SUBS FOR MEMBERS: Each member was asked to have two substitutes on stand-by willing to take their place at meetings in case they are not able to attend. Since Rick Reynolds has not been able to make any of our meetings, it was suggested that the person receiving the next highest number of votes in his classification be asked to attend.
| |
| RAINY DAY FUND: Diane Reid and Lillian Yeager agreed to serve on this committee, along with staff member Vickie Jenson.
| |
MISCELLANEOUS:
- Sharon Rainbolt is home from the hospital. Her address is 1070 Wildwood Loop, Corydon, 47112 for anyone wishing to send her a card.
- Deb NeSmith suggested we discuss our contributions to staff members in need at Christmas at the October meeting so we can identify those needing assistance earlier than we did this year.
