STAFF COUNCIL
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD 2/25/03

Present: Janey Loney for Alicia Stanley, Cari Winstead, Rebecca Beardsley, Rita Seelye, Charlotte Dubois for Trudy Walter, Mary Ann Wild for Cynthia Stevenson, Roger Morris, Debbie NeSmith, Curt Peterson, Monica Wise, Barbara Gelwick, Lee Ann Bennett, Juli Crecelius, Lisa Ruddell, Pearlene Molet, Kathleen Norvell and Bev Biggs

Treasurer Lee Bennett reported the following:
  $335.35 Checking Account
  $216.51 Savings Account
  $377.84 Rainy Day Account
  $503.15 Certificate of Savings
  $1,066.60 Honorarium Account

Funds from the raffle of $665.66 were deposited in the Honorarium Account. All but $400 of these funds will be put in the Savings Account; the Honorarium Account will be strictly for scholarship funds.

Secretary Bev Biggs reported that the minutes of the last meeting were approved by all Staff Council members via email and then sent to all staff prior to the meeting.

RAINY DAY FUND: Deb NeSmith reported that this fund was originally set up for a catastrophic event of a staff member; it was not a means to get out of a "financial pinch". The information of such an event was to be given to the President, who in turn gives the information to a committee set up of two faculty and one staff member. The committee has, in the past, paid for health insurance if the employee had used up all their available time and needed it, among other things, especially putting them in touch with agencies who would help. No more than $500 was to be paid per person. The committee has not been needed for five years. The question for the Council members was whether to keep the money in a separate fund or move it into the savings account and it was agreed to leave the funds where they are for now.

PARKING SPACE PROBLEMS:

This agenda item has been tabled until the next meeting.

CHRISTMAS GIFT CRITERIA: A rough draft of an application was discussed and after some modification, was approved. This application will be available to any appointed staff member for themselves or on behalf of someone else in October every year for financial help during the holidays.

CBAG: The Council members wanted to let members of CBAG know that they consider salary increases the highest priority. Since this is a tight budget year, it was also suggested that more benefits, including more time off, be given in lieu of money.

STYLE SHOW UPDATE: Janie Loney distributed 10 tickets to each member of the Council, along with posters. The tickets are $12 each, and deadline is March 19. Meal stubs are to be given to Lisa Ruddell in the Registrar's Office and money to Kathleen Norvel or Lee Bennett. The Style Show will be held in the Hoosier Room on March 21 at noon. For people who want to make a donation only and will not be having a meal, members are asked to mark "no meal" on the stub. These tickets can be turned in for a door prize. Chicken and tuna are both available. The Council will purchase meals for the two DJ's (who are donating their time) and two representatives from Kohl's and Dillards. Everyone else will be expected to pay for a meal. Rebecca Beardsley has received $100 each from two sponsors that will help to underwrite the ads and decorations. Doors will open at 11:40; six or more people can reserve a table.

RAFFLES: In the future, absolutely no raffles will be allowed on campus. Any one with fund-raising ideas should contact President Norvell.

RELAY FOR LIFE: The Council will again sponsor a relay team for this event for $100 and anyone interested in walking should contact Trudy Walter in the Student Financial Assistance Office. Trudy is also selling chickens and bears as part of the fund raising effort connected to this event.
