STAFF COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

8/15/06 – 10:00 A.M – INDIANA ROOM

 

 

Attending:  Steven Clark, Regina McCarty, Diane Fuchs, Charlotte Dubois, Lesley Deal, Kim Draughn, Lisa Ruddell, Donna Harvey, Kathleen Norvell for Kim Wells and Trudy Walter       

 

Excused Absence:  Roger Morris, Mary Ann Wild, Teresa Andrews, John Jarboe, Ethel King and Kim Wells

Reminder - The Chancellor's Picnic is scheduled for August 25, 2006.  Steven Clark has volunteered to announce the Staff Council scholarship winners at this event.  A total of five staff members have applied.  According to the guidelines, two will be selected to receive the awards. 

 

Human Resources is working on constructing and maintaining a telephone listing of permanent hourly folks on campus.  Currently, these folks are not listed on any phone directories and if an emergency occurs, it would be a challenge to locate these folks.  The hourly telephone directory will be made available to the Switchboard Operators, Mail Service, Campus Police, and anyone else who has a need for it..

 

Mary Ann Wild coordinated with the Bookstore and has obtained six $5.00 gift certificates to be utilized as the monthly drawing for reading of the Staff Council minutes.

 

The Staff Council silent auction is scheduled fro November 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the Multi-Purpose Room.  The theme for this event is "holiday".  Mary Ann Wild and Lisa Ruddell are co-chairing this event.  In order to bid on an item, you will need to register with your name and all contact information the day of the event.  You will be issued a number which in turn you will list on the bid sheet along with your bid.  Discussed publicity for this event.  Suggestion was made that we contact Cindy Hess to pursue all of our opportunities for "free press".  Steven Clark assembled and distributed a list of door prize contributors from last year's Style Show.  It was suggested that the co-chairs work with Janie Loney to determine a listing of donators with the most beneficial door prize.  This listing will be submitted to Jenna Copple for approval on solicitation.  Once this listing has been approved/finalized, this listing will be distributed to staff members.  We are asking that staff members volunteer to contact 2 to 3 donors for a donation item.  Work will be ongoing on this process.  Thank you to Charlotte Dubois who donated tickets for the Clarksville Little Theater!  If you would like to donate an item, please contact Mary Ann Wild or Lisa Ruddell.       

 

Discussed the upcoming Staff Council elections.  Steven Clark reported that the nominations for the Service Maintenance members closes tomorrow.  Kim Draughn has volunteered to serve for another term – thank you!  It was suggested that based on the number of nominations, we look at possibly not holding the election process.

 

A special thank you to Ann Lee, Human Resources Director, for guest speaking at our last Staff Council meeting.  Ann has volunteered to attend any additional Staff Council meetings to discuss concerns.  Charlotte Dubois volunteered to send Ann a thank you card.

 

Steven Clark led the discussions regarding sensitive data on office computers.  The best place to store your sensitive information is on your "H" drive.  You may want to consider relocating "my documents" to your "H" drive.  For assistance in this process, please contact the Help Desk.  Discussed the possibility of new procedure on loading software on your computer.

 

Discussions were held regarding four 10 hour work weeks and carpooling to work. 

 

Steven Clark has been successfully serving as Staff Council President.  His term will expire next month.  Elections will be held to fill the vacancy.

 

The Support Staff Retreat is scheduled for October 20, 2006.  Timing is from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at McCauley Nicolas Building in Jeffersonville.  Staff is encouraged to attend.

 

The Bookstore gift certificate winner for the month of August is Angela Farnsley.  Thanks for reading the Staff Council minutes!  We appreciate your participation.
