COMMITTEE REPORTS

Charitable Donation Policy Committee - Leslie Turner

The matter was tabled until the next meeting upon Leslie Turner’s return.

OLD BUSINESS

Gift Certificate Give-Away -Leslie Turner
The matter is tabled as we await a reply from the Barnes and Noble bookstore.
Ice Cream Social - Diane Fuchs
The date for the Staff Council Ice Cream Social is August 18th between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.  The breezeway area has been secured and Diane will coordinate the event.

Silent Auction – Diane Fuchs
Diane noted that the date of the Staff Council Silent Auction is October 21st, 2008.  Conference Room UC127 has been secured for this event on the 21st, and also on October 20th for set up.  Timing for this event will be from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Mary Ann Wild noted that she has received a suggestion to have two closing times for bids.  Mary Ann Wild, Charlotte Dubois, and Lesley Deal volunteered for the Silent Auction Committee.  All others wishing to join the committee are welcomed.  Please help brainstorm in selecting a name for the auction.  Since we are including Halloween, Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, we’d like to choose a name that embodies each of these. Send any staff council member your thoughts and we’ll pass it on to the committee.

Story Board for Staff Council - Regina McCarty
The matter was tabled until the next meeting upon Regina McCarty’s return.

Honoraria- Kim Wells
Kim Wells reported that she acquired an honoraria application and that it will be put on the website as soon as the committee meets and chooses a closing date for making application.  As soon as this is completed, Diane Fuchs will send a message to all staff regarding applying for the honoraria.

Discount Parking Pass - Mary Ann Wild
The matter was tabled until the next meeting.

Staff Council Election Committee - Diane Fuchs
After discussion, Diane Fuchs and Lesley Deal volunteered to join Regina McCarty and Connie Schnieders on the Election Committee.  The three members to be who finish their terms this year are Connie Schnieders, Loretta Seals, and Kim Draughn (all SM employees).   The committee will report its progress at the next meeting.

New Employees – Diane Fuchs
After discussion the consensus of the Staff Council is to discontinue sending “welcome letters” and a copy of the by-laws to each new staff member.  In lieu of this, Staff Council has tentatively scheduled a reception with refreshments for new employees at the September meeting following the election of SC officers for 2008-09.  All new staff members will be invited to attend this meeting. Handouts will be prepared and the new Story Board will be displayed.  Please contact any member of the SC board if you have opinions regarding this change.

Lesley Deal
