Indiana University Southeast

Project FAQs

Q: What is the renovation project all about?

A: The renovation of University Center North and South is mostly about giving students more space and more choices. If you have heard that the focus is on providing space for student organizations, it is true. For example, 2,000 square feet has been earmarked for a Student Involvement Center. There will be 20 individual offices in this area. Another 1,000 square feet will be an open area (near the Student Involvement Center) for student meeting and lounge. Also, student service departments (such as Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Career Services) will be centralized, making it easier for students who need to conduct business to do so in a "one stop shopping" environment.

Q: Where did the money for the renovation come from?

A: The make-over now underway is a $7 million dollar project. This money came from a $21 million bond issue that was approved by the Indiana State Legislature in 2003. Part of the $21 million was used for IU Southeast's new Library, which opened in 2005.

Q: Will we have more dining/food options?

A: Yes. Although we are at least a year from inviting new vendors into IU Southeast, additional menu options and a larger dining area are included in the plan.

Q: Why are so many offices being moved around?

A: In many cases, offices are being moved so that the construction crews can get the work done. However, some offices are already at their new, permanent location. It can get confusing, so check this website often for updates and news alerts.

Q: I miss getting a cup of coffee in University Center, where can I get one now?

A: You can walk to the Library and get a cup of coffee at Buffalo Madison (just inside the Library doors to the right). Plans do call for bringing a new coffee vendor into University Center, but the space for the new vendor is not yet ready.

Q: Is the bookstore part of the renovation?

A: The bookstore is one of the centerpieces of the renovation project. See an illustration of how it will look when finished.
