Annual Report

IU Southeast publishes and distributes this report, or the notice of the existence of the report, on a yearly basis to current and prospective employees and students. Statistics are compiled from crimes reported to the University Police and local agencies (if available). In addition, crimes that are reported to those persons in the campus community with primary counseling responsibility are given to the author of this report by the submission of a number for statistical purposes only. Any information provided by a counselor is voluntary and confidential. This document is published and distributed in compliance with the Clery Act and the 1998 amendments to the act.

Crime Prevention

You can play a key role in our crime prevention efforts. Be cautious, careful, alert to your own safety, and protective of both your property and that of the University.

Ongoing crime prevention efforts by IU Southeast include:

  • Emergency phone system
  • 24 hour police patrol
  • Burglary alarms and surveillance cameras in key areas
  • Highly technical surveillance system in the lodges
  • Crime prevention and safety seminars presented to any group requesting presentations
  • Crime prevention and safety literature available at the University Police office

Security Committee

The Safety and Security Committee for the campus is comprised of students, faculty, and staff members. The committee's function is to address safety and security issues of the campus community and to make recommendations to the University Police.

Daily Log

The University Police maintain a daily log of all crime reports filed with the department. Entries are made to the log within 2 business days.

Security Authority

In addition to the University Police, the following individuals (who have significant responsibility for student activities) are responsible for forwarding reports of crimes, both for inclusion in this report and for purposes of placing the campus community on alert in case of the repetition of these crimes. When a threat to students and/or employees exists, the appropriate and timely notice of the occurrence of such crimes shall be made by means of the Timely Notice section of this website.

Where do IU Police Officers have jurisdiction to make arrests?

IU Police Officers have jurisdiction on any real property owned or occupied by the University or on any streets through or adjacent thereto. The IU Southeast Police department also shares concurrent jurisdiction anywhere in Floyd and Clark Counties through mutual aid agreements.
