Are you looking to gain first-hand experience in research and creative projects, get guidance from knowledgeable faculty, and dive deeper into the subjects you're most passionate about?

At IU Southeast, our faculty use their industry knowledge to train and mentor students like you. You'll have many chances to fully develop your interests and gain career-ready experience.

Throughout your time at IU Southeast, and even early on in your educational journey, you'll be able to take part in exciting classroom projects and cutting-edge research to give you a unique advantage during your career search. IU Southeast Student Conference

IU Southeast hosts the largest undergraduate research and creativity conference at Indiana University. Over 150 students participated last year!

IU-wide research and creativity conferences

Our students also regularly participate in IU-wide research and creativity conferences to network beyond our campus and build their resume for graduate school admission.

Student research grants

More than 20 students receive grants each year to support their research and creative projects, saving you money on your tuition.

In-class projects

You can do research and creative projects as part of your classes. Working in tandem with your professor, you’ll determine your project’s focus and best practices.

Communication

Strategic Communications majors in COMM-I 347 develop communication campaigns and create a creative brief for an actual client or brand.

Biology

Biology majors in the L 403 Senior Seminar research a biological topic and then present their findings in a public presentation, attended by students colleagues and Biology faculty.

Computer Science

Senior Computer Science students partner with an industry adviser in P 445 or P 446 courses to design a project focused on an applied problem.

Education

Advanced Education students develop an Impact on Student Learning Project where they develop a series of lessons then use pre- and post- analysis to assess the effectiveness of the lesson plans on student learning.

Informatics

Informatics students taking I 494 work with community partners to solve business problems. One example includes informatics students helping local non-profit organizations with a website audit and redesign.

Psychology

Psychology majors in P 477, the Applied Research in Psychology class, design a survey in consultation with an agency. After the results are analyzed, the class develops suggestions for an intervention plan to solve a problem.

Limitless options to learn by example

IU Southeast faculty use their industry experience, connections, and awareness of the job market to develop your interests and give you a professional edge after graduation. These are a few of the projects our faculty are taking part in with students:

  • Fine Arts Professor Deb Clem has students doing a public art installation with her.
  • Theater Professor Jim Hesselman is working with a student to help him stage an original play.
  • Chemist Vic Waingeh has a chemistry student doing research about the human body’s ability to process cholesterol.
  • Honor’s Director Rebekah Dement is working with a student who just won a political science award.
