In addition to the 21 credit hours in English required of all English majors, the following courses are required for students who wish to concentrate in Literature:

15 credit hours in Literature electives.  12 of these 15 credit hours must be taken at the 300 level or above.  3 may be taken at the 100 or 200 level.  The literature program encourages electives in a variety of periods of American and British literature, especially in Shakespeare and other major figures. It also recommends a course in British or American history before taking the capstone course.

ENG-L 460 Seminar: Literary Form, Mode, and Theme.  The 3 credit-hour capstone course, which focuses on texts, often from different historical periods, united by a common mode, form, or theme.   Capstone courses are research- and writing-intensive.
