Biography

Adam Maksl teaches journalism and advises the newspaper at Indiana University Southeast. He has also taught college journalism at the University of Missouri and Ball State University.

Maksl’s work – in teaching, research and service – focuses primarily on youth media and media literacy. A former youth journalist himself, he regularly speaks to student journalists and their advisers. Most recently, he has taught for as well as directed programs designed to help high school publications use multimedia storytelling tools to better report on their communities and engage readers.

Maksl’s research has been published in journalism and journalism education journals. He is currently serving as research chair of the Scholastic Journalism Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Maksl worked briefly as a high school journalism teacher, and for four years he was assistant director of Ball State’s Journalism Workshops office, where he ran outreach programs and did some PR/marketing for the BSU journalism department.
