Biography
Jacob Babb specializes in Rhetoric and Composition, a discipline that focuses on the teaching of writing, the study of rhetoric as communication, and the literacy practices in and beyond colleges and universities. Dr. Babb’s research asks how contemporary academic disciplines work (specifically rhetoric and composition, and English more broadly), both in response to the pedagogical needs of undergraduate and graduate students and the needs of external stakeholders in education, such as federal and state legislatures, professional organizations, and news media. Beyond his interest in disciplinary history, Dr. Babb also writes about spatial rhetoric and issues in writing program administration.
At Indiana University Southeast, Dr. Babb teaches writing courses that encourage students to build their knowledge of rhetoric and multiple approaches to writing to learn to adapt to the needs of new readers and new situations.
