Biography

Christine Brown attended Indiana University, Bloomington, where her piano instructors included Henry Upper and Walter Robert. She holds Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in Music Education. Dr. Brown has performed solo, duet, two-piano and concerto repertoire, and has accompanied instrumentalists, vocalists and ensembles. Her teaching experience spans 25 years and includes piano and classroom instruction at collegiate and pre-collegiate levels. Dr. Brown taught piano, music fundamentals and music appreciation from 1987-1998 at Indiana University Southeast, where she also established the Arts Institute for community and pre-college arts programs. From 1998-2000 she served as the State Fine Arts Coordinator for the Indiana Department of Education, during which time she evaluated public school arts programs, directed the writing of state arts standards, and provided professional development for teachers of the arts. Dr. Brown returned to IU Southeast in January 2001, where she teaches piano, sight singing and music theory.
