Biography

Cory Barnfield is currently living in Louisville, KY.  He is a Selmer Paris endorsed artist and plays exclusively on Selmer Paris Series III Saxophones.  His playing has been described as:

Having a warm and expressive sound that speaks melodies easily with complete control of the full range of his instrument. There is a unique intimacy to his playing that is a delight to the listener.  His fingers are precise, and rapidly allowing the music to flow unimpeded to the listener’s imagination no matter how difficult or easy.  His articulation on saxophone is superb”!

            -Paul Wagner, Saxophone Journal.

Mr. Barnfield performs frequently with the Kentucky Opera and the Louisville Orchestra.  He recently performed with Teddy Abrams conducting Walton’s Facade and was saxophone soloist on Milhaud’s Creation of the World. He has also been a soloist with several bands and orchestras throughout the region.  His performances have included Aria and Allegro for soprano sax by Pascuzzi and most recently Heiden’s Diversion for alto sax and band.

Mr. Barnfield has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe.  He has also performed at several regional, national and international saxophone conferences, and was principal saxophonist with the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles International Youth Wind Orchestra in San Obispo, California and Lucerne, Switzerland.

As a recording artist, Mr. Barnfield can be heard on labels such as Mark Custom Recordings, Centaur Records, and New Dynamic Records.  His debut album was “Journey” and his latest album is “Out of This World”.  Mr. Barnfield has championed new music by commissioning pieces from composers such as David Maslanka, Perry Goldstein, Peter Felice and Daniel Powers.

Mr. Barnfield is on faculty with the Jefferson County Public Schools and Indiana University Southeast.  For more information visit www.corybarnfield.com
