Biography

Richard Rebilas (voice), baritone, is a native of Pennsylvania. His music versatility is evident in the variety of his performances in the genres of opera, musical theatre, recital and concert.

His standard operatic credits range from such favorites as Papageno, Figaro, and Don Giovanni to Sid in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Ned Keene in Peter Grimes, and Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Noteworthy contemporary roles include Slim in Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men, Damis in Kirke Mechem's Tartuffe, and The Man with the Shoe Sample Kit in Dominick Argento's Postcard from Morocco. He has performed with Kentucky Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Chicago Opera Theatre, Western Opera Theatre, Eugene Opera, Nashville Opera, Pamiro Opera, Oswego Opera and Europa Musica 2001.

His concert engagements include performances of Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Handel's Messiah, Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem, Fauré's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, Honegger's Une Cantate de Noel, David Amram's Songs for America, and various pops concerts with orchestras of Louisville, Samford, Cincinnati, Tucson, and the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra. He was a 1991 Liederkranz Competition winner.

Richard has enjoyed many successes in the realm of musical theatre. He has played Curly in Oklahoma!, Emile de Becque in South Pacific, Leadville Johnny Brown in The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Lancelot in Camelot, Adam in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Anthony in Sweeney Todd.

Richard holds a master's degree from Indiana University, and has also studied at the San Francisco Opera Center's Merola Program and the American Institute for Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
