Naomi Henderson (Clarinet) received her Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University in 1985 and her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 1977 from Ball State University, studying privately with Rolf Legbandt. At Ball State she was principal clarinetist for the Wind Ensemble and Orchestra, and played the saxophone in the jazz band. She also played for some musicals playing in the pit on flute, clarinet and saxophone. Her student teaching was under the supervision of Don McMahel, working at Hazelwood Jr. High, Scribner Jr. High, New Albany High, and Green Valley Elementary Schools. Mrs. Henderson has also worked as a woodwind specialist for Scottsburg High School.
She taught elementary music for Scott County School District 2 in Scottsburg Indiana from 1979 until retiring from public school teaching in 2011.
Mrs. Henderson currently teaches private clarinet lesson for Indiana University Southeast through the Arts Institute and also maintains a private studio at her home. Naomi has been teaching private studio clarinet lessons since 1975 working with students of all ages. She is also an adjudicator for solo and ensemble contest for the Indiana State School Music Association at District and State levels.
Mrs. Henderson has played clarinet with the IUS Concert band since 2000 and is currently principal clarinetist. She performs periodically for her church and special music programs in the community.
