Biography
Dr. Sumreen Asim is a COFFEE enthusiast. Currently teaches STEM courses to both undergraduate and graduate students at Indiana University Southeast. Over the last two decades she has focused her work to share, love and grow with fellow educators. She enjoys helping others implement inquiry-based instructional approaches. Her research interests are in collaborative efforts STEM education, culturally-responsive teaching, and educational technology. She always loves to share a good laugh with others to leave them smiling! Dr. Asim has presented her work at regional, national and international conferences including HASTI, KySTE, NSTA, AERA, ASTE, NARST, SITE, SSMA and ISTE.

Professional Interests
Teaching
I teach Science and Technology courses at IU Southeast at the undergraduate and graduate level. I am a daughter of immigrants from Pakistan and grew up on Long Island. My journey as an educator started in New York City. I have taught in both private and public schools. While pursuing my doctorate, I was involved in the UTeach program at the University of North Texas.
During my time at IUS, I was presented been presented several teaching awards including the IUS Trustees Award, IUS Faculty Innovator Award, IUS Distinguished Teaching Award and the 2020 Innovative College Science Teaching from the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc. (HASTI). I was also inducted into FACET during Spring 2023.
My passion in teaching includes: Science/STEM Education; Informal Science Education; Educational Technology; Culturally-Responsive as well as Professional Development
Research
I have published in a variety of spaces such as journals and books. I investigate and publish work predominantly in STEM teacher preparation. My research agenda involves qualitative and mixed-methods studies as well as practitioner pieces. I am currently the co-editor of the CITE Science Journal. I also have been a successful in grant writing and have a track record of securing over $1M as a principal investigator, co-principal investigator, or project director.
