Biography
Hello! My name is Charles Rains and I am the Academic Advisor in the School of Education for all Secondary Education Undergraduate Programs. Prior to coming to Indiana University Southeast, I was a Middle School English Instructor where I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. In addition to being a Middle School English Instructor, I was, and still am, an Adjunct Reading Instructor at Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville, Kentucky.
After becoming an Adjunct Reading Instructor, I noticed my that professional interests began to change - I was becoming more intrigued with the field of higher education. This resulted in me leaving the middle school classroom and working as an Instructional Designer where I collaborated with multiple colleges and universities in helping faculty develop their online curriculum and degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate level.
However, even though I greatly enjoyed my role as an Instructional Designer - I was still looking for a more direct role in higher education. A role where I would be working one-on-one with students in helping them achieve their degree, and that is how I found my way to Indiana University Southeast. I take great pride and enthusiasm in working with our School of Education students in helping them navigate the waters of a degree program that will lead them to a quality education credential from an esteemed University. Working with our pre-service educators gives me great hope that the field of education will continue to positively evolve as they will soon become transformational leaders in classrooms across the United States.
