Biography
Dr. Maher was a secondary English and social studies teacher for 12 years before she began pursuing her Ph.D. full time. While earning her doctorate, she taught methods courses in English language arts and served as Assistant Director of First-Year Writing at Western Michigan University. While at WMU, Dr. Maher earned several honors and awards, including a Dissertation Completion Fellowship and an Excellence in Teaching award. Her research interests include critical inquiry approaches to teaching literature, critical youth studies, and youth cultural studies--especially as applied to the teaching of young adult literature.
