Biography

Dr. Kelli Dehr Bernedo is an Assistant Professor of English as a Second Language/English as New Language Education. She holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Indiana University Southeast. As a student at IUS, she worked at the New Neighbors Education Center and co-led a study abroad program in Ecuador for over ten years. These partnerships led to her working full-time at a partner school in Quito, Ecuador. Dr. Bernedo completed her Ph.D. from Indiana State University in 2019. Her dissertation research focused on K-12 school leadership and professional development needs as related to English language learners.

Dr. Bernedo's professional experiences include serving as a classroom teacher, a Spanish language teacher, an English as a foreign language teacher in Ecuador, an English language learner (ELL) teacher, a district ELL director, and a Spanish Immersion Instructional Coach. She has also served as an educational consultant for close to a decade with the New Neighbors Education Center. This work has allowed her to support regional school districts with their language learners for close to a decade.
