NextLevel Jobs Work-Ready Grant

This certificate is part of a special initiative provided by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) called NextLevel Jobs, which is a tuition-free training grant for Indiana residents. For those that qualify, tuition for these certificate programs will be fully reimbursed.

Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0
In-Person

An 18 credit hour program that trains students to code information using ICD-9-CM, CPT, and HCPCS in the health care setting. Introduction to ICD-10 Medical coding guidelines also covered as part of the program as well as billing and reimbursement concepts for commercial insurance carriers, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and Workers Compensation.

Upon completion of the certificate, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Exam administered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). With additional onsite hospital training, students can sit for the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) exam administered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Work experience is strongly recommended prior to taking either of these exams.

Students pursuing the Medical Coding Certificate must complete the following courses with a minimum grade of C. All courses are 3 credit hours unless otherwise noted.
