Graduate Checklist

You’re in the final stretch, Grenadiers!

You are close to the finish line, but there are just a few more steps to go.

From making sure you’re eligible to graduate to requesting accommodations for your guests, find everything you need to prepare for Commencement in our checklist below.

Be sure to complete these tasks early so you don’t miss any deadlines.

Check your eligibility

The first step in preparing for Commencement is to verify your eligibility for graduation with your school recorder.

Apply to graduate

Apply to graduate by March 1 to ensure your name is printed in the program and you receive your diploma. If you applied on a previous date but did not graduate, you must reapply.

Check for record holds

Resolve any holds on your record, such as an unpaid bursar bill, that may impact the release of your diploma or transcripts. Search “record holds” at one.iu.edu.

Name and mailing address

Verify that the spelling and formatting of your degree name is correct. You can also update your gender, birthdate, and mailing address.

Order your cap and gown

Rent your official IU cap and gown from our partner, Herff Jones. Request apparel before April 7 to avoid late fees. 

Attend GradFair

Check off several Commencement tasks at once by attending GradFair on Thursday, March 7, from Noon to 6 p.m. in the Hoosier Room at University Center North.

Accessibility Information

Our trained Commencement organizers provide services to graduates and guests who need accommodations. IU Southeast will also have an ALS interpreter at the ceremony, and closed captioning will be provided both on the screens and live streams.
