All graduates in attendance receive red IU diploma covers during the commencement ceremony. All diplomas are produced by IU Bloomington and delivered to the IU Southeast Office of the Registrar.
Staff in the schools and the Office of the Registrar work jointly in the weeks following Commencement to conduct final certification of all degree requirements. Once all certifications are complete and all degrees posted to student transcripts, diplomas are ordered.
When diplomas are received, the Office of the Registrar will contact all graduates through their IU Southeast and preferred non-IU email address of record. Graduates will have a one week window to pick up their diplomas in person, or have it picked by an authorized proxy. The form authorizing someone else to pick up your diploma for you is part of the notifying e-mail, and must be physically signed by the graduate to be effective. Graduates and proxies must present photo ID validating their identity before diplomas may be released.
Any diplomas not picked up during that window will be mailed to the home or diploma mailing address as reflected by University records. Diplomas are mailed in stiff, white 9 x 12 cardboard mailing sleeves, via first class mail with “DO NOT BEND” notification stickers on them. If you change your address before time to mail, please notify the Office of the Registrar. Diplomas are not released or sent if the graduate has any holds on their record.
Students may also order a certified electronic (cE) diploma via IU’s partner, Paradigm. The cE diploma has the same elements and appearance as the printed diploma, but has an online validation feature. The cE diploma is becoming accepted as an alternative to an apostilled diploma in some non-US school environments, where a certified copy of the diploma is considered the official and definitive proof of a student’s completion of studies. cE diplomas are only available for students who graduated Spring 18 or later. To order, select the Electronic Diploma task on One.IU.
At IU, and in the U.S. generally, an official transcript with your degree posted is the accepted, definitive record of your degree completion. You can order an official transcript or a duplicate diploma from the Office of the Registrar. If you have any questions, please contact Office of the Registrar, (812) 941-2240.
GradImages is the official photographer for our Commencement. Their photographers will be onsite to take your photo as you receive your diploma cover on stage. You will have the option to view and purchase those photos. Proofs will be sent to your home and via email within three to five days after graduation. Pictures can be ordered online, by phone or by mail. GradImages can be contacted at (800) 261-2576.
Several backdrops will be located around the venue for family photos.
Please note that drones and other remotely controlled devices for photography are not permitted inside the venue, or outside in proximity to the event, per IU’s policy on unmanned aircraft.
Indiana University Southeast will take photographs and/or video of its patrons and/or program participants at Commencement.
