Diplomas are awarded to students who have applied for graduation and completed all their degree requirements. When are diplomas mailed? Will my major be on my diploma? Look here for answers to your diploma questions.

When will I get my diploma?

All diplomas are mailed to students who have no outstanding financial obligations to the university. Included with your diploma is a letter for a free official transcript. Diplomas are not distributed during the commencement ceremonies. May diplomas are mailed in late June; August diplomas are mailed in late October; December diplomas are mailed in late February.

Why does it take so long to receive my diploma?

Once final grades are collected, the School Dean reviews and certifies degree completion for all candidates. Final degree honors are calculated and reviewed by the Deans. The Registrar's Office records the degree completion on your academic record; places the diploma order with the vendor; proofreads diplomas, and prepares everything for mailing.

Will my major appear on my diploma?

No, only the full name of the degree and any degree honors appear on the diploma. Your major, however, will appear on your official transcript.

How are degree honors determined?

Indiana University recognizes three levels of distinction for undergraduate degrees:

  1. Highest Distinction - Red and White Cord (3.95 GPA or higher)
  2. High Distinction - White Cord (3.80 GPA to 3.94 GPA)
  3. Distinction - Red Cord (3.60 GPA to 3.79 GPA)

Grade Point Average is determined by Program GPA and it is not rounded up or down; the GPA is truncated. Final degree honors do include the current semester grades.

In addition, degree candidates must rank among the top 10 percent of their graduating class in each of the separate degree categories. The "graduating class" is defined as the current degree conferral date (for example, students graduating in May will be compared against other students graduating in May under the same degree).

Finally, bachelor’s degree candidates must have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours at Indiana University, to be eligible to graduate with distinction.

What size is my diploma?

Diplomas are 8.5" x 11" and are suitable for framing.

How do I get a duplicate diploma?

The Office of the Registrar, Indiana University Southeast, processes requests for duplicate diplomas by placing periodic orders with our diploma vendor. Duplicate orders are placed with the vendor on the first of each month with an expected delivery date of 4 to 6 weeks.

The fee for the duplicate diploma is $35.00 for each copy requested.
