The Office of Community Engagement is the connector for collaborative partnerships between the community and IU Southeast faculty, staff, and students. IU Southeast welcomes and pursues partnerships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and businesses to prepare our future workforce and improve the communities we serve through outreach services and individualized research development and implementation plans. We encourage engagement that enhances lifelong learning and builds community.

Community involvement
You can work with faculty on engaged research and capacity expansion projects. Whether you care about the role of trees in improving water quality or community development in our region’s rural communities, you can find faculty using their skills to better understand our region and respond to its changing needs.
Learning through service
Learning through services engages students in meeting campus and community needs while earning credit toward their degree. They take a course that includes a service project and actively reflect on their experiences and their connections to the course subject matter and their own growth.

Partner with a faculty member to build a service-learning course. Students will learn about your organization/business and will apply their developing knowledge and skills to help you draft a strategic plan, conduct a study, solve a problem, or complete a capacity-building project.

Bringing Art to Life
Since 2016, Professor Donna Stallard and her students have brought their creative ideas to life in the IU Southeast Harvest Homecoming Parade float.
IU Southeast organizes a delegation of students, staff, faculty, and administrators to greet our neighbors on this day of community celebration. The float is an artistic contribution that entertains and shows the community the creative spirit of IU Southeast. Students get the benefit of an applied learning project with a large public audience. They come out more confident and better able to work in a team to realize a shared vision.
