Greetings!

Thank you for taking a moment to look at the Divisional Strategic

Plan for 2016-2021 to better serve you as an IU Southeast student. In

its pages, you will see how serious we are about being your college.

The plan gives you and others we serve our commitment to prepare

our graduates to make a solid impact on the region of Southern

Indiana/Metro Louisville with the knowledge and skills represented

by your degree. To make you at home in the meantime, our plan is a

blueprint of our strategies that began with your recruitment and

orientation. It covers your move-in day or first commute to classes

and encompasses the resources we have gathered for you to learn and

to be a part of what goes on here: whether you are visiting the Center

for Mentoring, the Adult Student Center, the Writing Center, the

Math lab, and much more—or having fun, like enjoying a home

game of one of our athletic teams, gathering in the Student

Commons, hanging out in the Coffee Shop, being a student-athlete,

or getting involved in one of our many Campus Life clubs and

organizations. In short, because we want to keep you here, we reach

out to both your MIND and HEART.

As you move through this plan, you will also see why IU Southeast is

a place you’ll be proud to BE and to call your ALMA MATER when

you graduate. You will experience first-rate faculty who care about

your success here. They will not only make their subjects come alive,

but also help you to learn more about how to learn. They will set

aside time just for you to visit with them in their offices, to answer

your questions and address your concerns, including what to do after

college. Our Career Development Center is here for you to discover

more about your aptitudes and interests, to relate them to a major,

and to learn about careers through an internship or externship. The

Enrollment Management and Student Affairs team at IU Southeast

will treat you as an individual, as will all of our faculty, staff, and

advisors. We welcome students of all kinds, whether new to college

or returning to finish a degree. We embrace students of all identities

and traditions: all backgrounds, nations, faiths, and ethnicities. In

fact, we are honored to have been named one of the “Most Promising

Places to Work in Student Affairs” in 2015 and 2016 by Diverse

Issues in Higher Education.

We have created this plan so that these benefits aren’t just our

promises but our practices. I am proud to share it with you as the

Vice Chancellor overseeing enrollment management and student

affairs. Through it and the plans preceding it, we ensure that

“Learning Happens Here!” and for YOU!!

Sincerely Yours,

Jason L. Meriwether, Ph.D.
