letter from the Alumni President
Greetings from your Alumni Association.
Time seems to move so much faster now than it
did even a few short years ago.
It seems like I was just penning a letter to you a
few weeks ago closing out 2010 and talking about
how excited we were to be going into 2011 with
the projects we had planned. Now it is already
2012!
The Alumni Association is growing stronger each
year and is becoming a very vibrant part of our
community.
We have been working hard to create more
opportunities for our alumni to come together
and stay connected to our alma mater through
activities and events. We have enhanced our
membership value by developing partnerships in
our community.
• We now have discounted membership privileges at the Frazier History Museum
in Louisville, and hosted the IU Southeast Day at the Frazier in February.
• Thanks to the Chancellor and Diane Fuchs, our senior administrative assistant
of Alumni Affairs, we launched the first Victorian Tea at Culbertson West, which
received kudos from those who attended. The second annual tea was held in
March.
• The Day at the Downs was even more fun than the year before, and we will
return to Churchill Downs June 23.
• We had record breaking attendance at our Night at the Bats last summer which
brought more than 300 of our alums and their families together for a great
evening at the ballpark.
• Fall Festival was again a big success, bringing hundreds of folks back on campus.
• The end of 2011 was highlighted by the Chancellor’s Medallion dinner which
generated more than $70,000 for scholarships. Speaking of scholarships, this
year the alumni board approved awarding $10,000 in scholarships to family
members of alumni and to our athletic teams. A very special thanks to the
Chancellor for matching our money with her Medallion Scholarship fund to help
make this possible.
Our Alumni Board is growing and has recently added several new members with
outstanding credentials. If you’re interested in serving, call our alumni office at
(812) 941-2384.
We are excited about what we have planned and where we are headed. I encourage
you to join the alumni association and get involved in moving us forward.
Now, if I can just slow that clock down!
