Dear Readers,
Our students aren’t the only ones worrying about grades around here.
As editor of
IU Southeast
, I am constantly striving for top marks from you, our readers. Before we
debuted the new
IU Southeast
in fall 2010, we surveyed readers about content and quality and –
perhaps not surprisingly – received less than stellar grades. To be honest, we were publishing an
average university newsletter.
Fortunately, I’ve never been one who is happy with average.
Now, it’s been more than a year since we redesigned the magazine, and we decided it was time
for some follow-up. We again surveyed a random sampling of our readers to see if we had raised
our initial grade.
I’m happy to report that it looks like we are much improved. The latest survey results showed a
dramatic increase (30 percent) in the number of people reading every issue. It also showed that
almost every single reader surveyed felt the magazine strengthened their personal connection to
our University.
Even better, our readers were mentioning specific stories that they recalled well past the
publication date. We’re getting to you, and we like it.
But just because we’re doing better doesn’t mean we’re the best. Yet. That’s still our No. 1 goal: To
be the best university magazine around. If I gave us a grade now, I’d go with B+.
So we’re still working hard at bringing you the stories you want to read and the images you want
to see. And again, we welcome any and all comments and critiques. We want that A+, and you can
help us get there.
I hope you enjoy the latest issue of
IU Southeast
. As always, thanks for reading.
