letter from the Alumni President
Greetings to all!
It is my pleasure to inform everyone that
the IU Southeast Alumni Board had some
exciting things happen last year, and we are
all looking forward to a successful 2013.
Alumni Board members had the privilege
to play an active part at the very successful
IU Southeast Chancellor’s Medallion
Dinner in October by working the silent
auction. Not only did we raise record funds
for scholarships but the primo live auction
item of the night was a barbeque dinner
cooked by the board’s own immediate past
president, Mike Naville. Mike was a recipient
of this year’s Chancellor’s Medallion Award
along with long-time IU Southeast faculty
member Don McMahel.
The Alumni Association hosted a record number of events this past year
including two “Day at the Downs” at Churchill Downs, and we welcomed
more than 400 people to our “Night at the Bats” baseball game. We sold out
our Victorian Tea and helped host more than 4,000 people at the annual
Fall Festival on campus.
Even with all of that, we’ve got more in mind for 2013.
Already this semester, the Alumni Board’s Scholarship Committee reviewed
multiple requests for Alumni Scholarships. We are in the final phase of
awarding funds to some very deserving students. Since a student must be a
member of the IU Southeast Student Alumni Association to qualify, we have
had a surge in membership and hope this trend will continue.
We are also pleased to inform readers that Richard Madley has assumed
the role of president of the IU Southeast Student Alumni Association, and
we look forward to good things from Richard and his fellow officers. One
of the items on the Student Alumni Association’s priority list is to seek
opportunities for activities and interaction with students in the residence
halls and the student body at large. This will help enhance the University
experience for all students and their supporters on campus.
The Alumni Board is also working on some other events for the first quarter
of 2013, and we hope to see you there! We once again gave away free pizza
at the IU Southeast Homecoming bash and next up is the Third Annual
Victorian Tea in March. We are also in the early stages of planning our
annual Distinguished Alumni Awards luncheon which is set for April.
We are looking forward to a great 2013, and we hope you will come out
and join us. It’s not only fun, but it’s a way to support your University and
its students. If you know alumni who are not currently members of the
association, please encourage them to join and support their alma mater. We
also welcome any interest from alumni who have a desire to join the board.
Come join the fun in 2013!
