The IU Southeast School of Education programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).

We offer accredited programs for initial licensure level in the following areas:

  • Elementary Education (Elementary Generalist, K-6), with concentration in:
    • English Language Arts
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • Social Studies
    • English as a New Language (Teachers of English Learners, P-12) - additional license
  • Secondary Education, with concentrations in:
    • English Language Arts (Language Arts including speech, grades 5-12)
    • Science
      • Chemistry (5-12)
      • Earth/Space Science (5-12)
      • Life Science (5-12)
      • Physical Science (5-12)
      • Physics (5-12)
    • Journalism (5-12)
    • Theater Arts (P-12)
    • World Languages
      • French (P-12)
      • German (P-12)

    • English as New Language (Teachers of English Learners, P-12) - additional license

  • Early Childhood Transition to Teaching (new in Fall 2020) (P-3)
  • Elementary Transition to Teaching (Elementary Generalist, K-6)
  • Secondary Advance to Teaching
    • English Language Arts (Language Arts including speech, grades 5-12)
    • Science
      • Chemistry (5-12)
      • Earth/Space Science (5-12)
      • Life Science (5-12)
      • Physical Science (5-12)
      • Physics (5-12)
    • Journalism (5-12)
    • Theater Arts (P-12)
    • World Languages
      • French (P-12)

  • School Counseling - (School Counselor, P-12)
  • License Addition – Graduate Licensure Programs
    • Computer Education (P-12)
    • Educational Leadership (Building Level Administrator, P-12)
    • English as a New Language (Teachers of English Learners, P-12)
    • Gifted and Talented Teacher (High Ability Education, P-12)
    • Reading (P-12)

All degree programs satisfy the appropriate requirements for teacher certification as established by the Indiana Department of Education.

To be certified to teach, students must fulfill all degree requirements, achieve a passing score on the appropriate teacher licensure examinations as mandated by the Indiana Department of Education, and present evidence of good moral character.
