Our campus IT department practices Change Management, a process of communicating, coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring changes to campus technology and services. The main goal of Change Management is to ensure the appropriate communication of change events, but it also provides a process that protects the campus from changes that are potentially disruptive, in conflict or of unacceptable risk.

Key members of the local IT staff meet every Tuesday afternoon to discuss prospective changes, system upgrades or maintenance. Typical discussions deal with potential impacts, best and worst case scenarios, back-out plans, and appropriate times for the change. Targeted communications to affected users are also planned in Change Management meetings.

Such changes are normally scheduled within one of two routine change windows:

  1. Every Friday, from 2:30 a.m. until 6:30 a.m.; or
  2. The 2nd Sunday of the month, from 4:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Emergency repairs may be made outside of the above times.

Our campus IT staff also participate in IU-wide Change Management meetings.
