The Institute for Local and Oral History encourages students to take advantage of internship and volunteer opportunities at historical sites and other historically-related venues in southern Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky region. Indiana University Southeast students majoring in history may do one internship, supervised by a faculty member, for credit; see the Indiana University Southeast bulletin for more information.

This listing includes and is not exclusive to local sites that offer internships and volunteer opportunities related to history. IU Southeast students have interned and volunteered at some of these sites in the past. Please contact IU Southeast’s Assistant Director and Career Coach, Misti Jones, for assistance in securing an internship and/or seeing how you can get academic credit for one. Ms. Jones works in IU Southeast’s Career Development Center, and her contact information is: (812) 941-2271, mjones24@ius.edu.  The Institute for Local and Oral History can also provide assistance in reviewing cover letters and resumes for internships although students should first contact Ms. Jones for such assistance.
