Welcome to IU Southeast! We are excited that you have decided to join our campus. Please see the step-by-step guide below to enrolling for your first semester at IU Southeast.
Enrollment steps for new students
First-year freshmen
Your IT Account is what will get you access to IU Email as well as all information for IU New Student Orientation. You are not able to register for classes until you have set up your IT Account.
- To create your IT Account, you will need your student ID number. This number is listed on your admission letter. If you have misplaced your letter, you can look up your ID number.
- Create your computing account.
- You will then follow the prompts to create your account.
- If you have any trouble creating your IT Account, please contact the help desk at (812) 941-2447. If you have previously created an account for IU Dual Credit, this is your account. If you’ve forgotten your passphrase, you can recover the passphrase for your account.
Accessing a previous IU Computing Account
- If you already have an IT Account but cannot remember your passphrase, you can reset the passphrase by searching “passphrase reset” at one.iu.edu
- If you have any trouble accessing your account, please contact the help desk at (812) 941-2447.
Once you create your IT Account, please allow up to 24 hours for your account to fully activate. You will then have an IU Exchange email account. To access your IU Exchange Account, go to One.IU and log in with your IU Username and Passphrase. Then search for “Exchange” in the search bar that says “What would you like to do?”
IU Email is an official form of communication for all offices at IU, so it is important that you check your IU Email at least a few times per week. This is where we will send all communications about New Student Orientation and registering for classes. If, after waiting 24 hours for your account to activate, you are still unable to access your IU Email Account, please contact the IT help desk at (812) 941-2447.
Canvas is the learning management program that IU uses to facilitate online courses and training. It is similar to PowerSchool, Google Classroom, and other online “classrooms” that some of your high school teachers may have used. This is where you will complete your Welcome modules prior to meeting with your academic advisor and registering for New Student Orientation.
Incoming Spring 2023 Students
- Enroll in the Canvas course for Spring students.
Incoming Summer and Fall 2023 Students

Timeline: Any time after you set up your IT Account
When you meet with your advisor, you will be able to register for classes and ask any questions you may have that have not already been answered. All new student advising appointments are currently being handled via Zoom or Phone. You can schedule your Advising Appointment in the Student Appointment Scheduler. If you do not see an assigned advisor, click on Search Advisors and find your major.
Once you schedule your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email, in your IU Email, with the Zoom link and login information. If you are unable to schedule online or would just prefer to speak with someone to schedule your appointment, please use the appropriate phone number below.
The Spring 2023 and Summer 2023 schedule of classes is now available. The Fall 2023 schedule of classes has not been released yet—check your IU email regularly for updates.
