Admission to the School of Nursing is a two-step process. First, students are admitted to Indiana University Southeast; then, students take the pre-nursing general education courses.

General Education Requirements

IU Southeast has adopted the following general education requirements that are needed to earn a degree.

Students admitted to IU Southeast may apply to the School of Nursing for competitive admission upon completion of all prerequisite courses. Applications to the School of Nursing may be completed online in February of each academic year. A national criminal background check is required for admission into the program.

Students anticipating application to the School of Nursing must be advised by the pre-nursing academic advisor in the School of Nursing. Contact the advisor by calling (812) 941-2283.

Kaplan Testing

The Kaplan covers multiple areas of knowledge. The School of Nursing is MOST interested in an applicant’s performance on the Reading Comprehension Section. The exam is meant to measure things you already know. However, if you would like to purchase a study guide, the Kaplan Study Guide is available to purchase from retailers (many online).


Taking the Kaplan Entrance Exam

The Kaplan Entrance Exam is administered in the Student Success Center - Room 203 (Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m. or 1 p.m.).

  • Dates: Tuesday March 7 - Monday March 20.
  • NO Cost to take the Kaplan.
  • Applicants CANNOT take the Kaplan until AFTER they have applied online.
  • Schedule test date a week in advance by calling the Student Success Center (812) 941-2312.
