Admissions

Admission to the School of Nursing is a two-step process. First, students are admitted to Indiana University Southeast; then, students take the pre-nursing general education courses.

Admission Standards

Admission requirements for IU Southeast are found in the admission standards below.

General Education Requirements

IU Southeast has adopted the following general education requirements that are needed to earn a degree.

Students admitted to IU Southeast may apply to the School of Nursing for competitive admission upon completion of all prerequisite courses. Applications to the School of Nursing may be completed online in February of each academic year. A national criminal background check is required for admission into the program.

Students anticipating application to the School of Nursing must be advised by the pre-nursing academic advisor in the School of Nursing. Contact the advisor by calling (812) 941-2283.

Nursing Application Information Sessions

The School of Nursing will host Applicant Information Sessions on the following dates:

Location:
Indiana University Southeast
University Center North
Room 122

All students applying for admission to the Fall 2020 nursing cohort should attend one of the four sessions.

Kaplan Testing

The Kaplan Nursing Admissions Exam is a standardized test required for nursing program applicants. It contains 91 multiple choice questions covering four subjects: reading, writing, math, and science. Only the reading score is factored into the overall admission score: reading score is 25%, and pre-nursing GPA is 75%. Students have 2 hours and 45 minutes to take the Kaplan on the computer in the Student Success Center. Since the Kaplan is a standardized test, studying is not required. However, study guides (such as Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exams Prep 2019-2020) are available from online retailers if you wish to prepare for the reading section.
