The Certificate in Conflict Analysis and Resolution develops conflict management skills and the ability to analyze conflict over time and in various settings. The required curriculum focuses primarily on interpersonal conflicts and offers students a fundamental knowledge and understanding of the theories of conflict and applicable problem solving strategies. Transformative conflict resolution requires mediation and negotiation, and only through an understanding of the ethical, cultural and power dynamics at play is resolution possible. Elective courses provide social, historical and international perspectives of conflict. With such knowledge, students learn the stakes in resolution, patterns over time, and precedents for success.

Required Courses

Students are required to complete 18 credit hours with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0, including at least nine hours at the 300-level or above.

Admission Process

Requirements for the proposed certificates are the same as for any student who applies for admission at IU Southeast.

Freshman applicants must meet the following criteria for full admission:

  1. Core 40 or Core 40 with Honors or Technical Honors (or 28 college preparatory high school courses for non-Indiana residents and those graduating prior to 2011).
  2. At least a 2.0 GPA.

Scores from either the SAT or ACT are required for those applicants who graduated from high school within the past two years - or who completed a GED and are 19 years of age or younger. Students who have been out of high school for over two years and do not meet the minimum requirements listed for traditional students may be asked to arrange for an interview with an admissions counselor to demonstrate intention through maturity and experience. Standards based on SAT totals from Critical Reading and Math sections.
