Bachelor of Science - Public Relations Track

This track allows students to focus on the growing field of public relations. Students in the track will start with building journalistic storytelling skills, including learning how to write for media, communicate with visuals, and use social media. They will then focus on learning how to use those skills within the context of strategic communications campaigns.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job “public relations specialist” is expected to grow by 12 percent between 2012 and 2022. And with growth in the Kentuckiana region’s travel and tourism industries, the need for public relations practitioners is high. Those studying Public Relations might find careers as PR account executives; social media managers; directors of communications and public affairs; event coordinators; internal communication specialists; and others.

Our program’s focus is on helping you become career-ready by emphasizing five core skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and curiosity. You’ll develop professional portfolios and experience while in college that will help you land jobs and internships. Our public relations curriculum is built on standards suggested by the Commission on Public Relations Education, which is an organization of 15 professional PR societies and organizations.
