Position Summary

Orientation Leaders (OLs) aid new students in their transition to Indiana University Southeast. OLs must uphold the IU Southeast mission by exposing new students to high-quality educational programs and services that promote student learning and prepare students for productive citizenship. They also assist family members by introducing them to University resources and areas of support for their student.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive role model for new students and their families
  • Attend and actively participate in the Orientation Leader training program
  • Assist with the organization, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of New Student Orientation programs
  • Acquaint new students with campus services, activities, facilities, and campus rules and regulations
  • Encourage new students to fully participate in the university environment
  • Actively participate in Orientation and Induction Day activities
  • Lead tours and discussion groups for incoming students and/or parents
  • Become knowledgeable through training on various resources and aspects of the University
  • Aid in the development of new students’ class schedules and assist with the registration process
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.3 cumulative GPA
  • Must relate well with students, parents, faculty, and administrators
  • Must be mature, responsible, and display a willingness to assist students in transitioning to college
  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at IU Southeast in good academic and judicial standing
  • Must present a professional demeanor that favorably represents the institution and department
  • Must demonstrate a desire to learn about the University, its regulations, its people, its programs, and its community
  • Most importantly, must want to have fun!

    • Feb. 10, 2017 from 4 - 7 p.m. *Dinner provided
    • Feb. 26, 2017 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. *Lunch provided
    • March 12, 2017 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. *Lunch provided
    • April 17, 2017 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. *Lunch provided
    • April 21, 2017 from 1 - 4 p.m. *Snacks provided
  • Overnight Retreat
    • May 26, 2017 at 10 a.m. until May 27, 2017 at 4 p.m. (The cost of the retreat will be covered entirely by Campus Life)
  • Orientations & New Student Induction Day
    • OLs will be asked to volunteer at all one-day new student orientations (8), one two-day orientation, one transfer orientation, and New Student Induction day. *Dates will be given as soon as finalized by university. Will be available by February 2017 for ample planning.*
